| My wife and
I were living in Buderim on the Sunshine coast and were so taken with
the Helidon area after visiting the region, decided to sell and buy
a small farm in the Helidon Hills. This was almost 3 years ago. The
changes we have witnessed in the last three years have been staggering
and not all for the better.
The road to our little piece of heaven is shared by a growing
number of dump trucks, who start running as early as 6:00am, not
to mention that the Quarry they are coming from start at the same
time or even earlier! We love this little town we now call home
but it's sad to see what's happening to the bush, the local wildlife
and the life style we found so attractive that we gave up ocean
views to have.
Possibly the saddest event of all for us was our recent discovery
of a dead Mother Koala on the side of our road with no sign of a
baby, hopefully she didn't have one.
We need to take a good long hard look at how our lovely slice
of paradise grows and develops because believe me when I say and
I'm speaking from experience, what Helidon has is rare in today's
world and only getting more desirable and harder to find, don't
get me wrong, I'm all for intelligent growth of our wonderful town,
but lets use some knowledge and wisdom and use some restraint as
we move ahead, we can't un-do it once it's done.

Hi. I have been
travelling in to the Helidon Hills and Upper Lockyer area since 1993.
I am a Horticulturist and have seeked out our local Grevillea (G.
quadricauda) as well as Persoonia's, Banksia's, Thryptomene, Leptospermum's.
Lots of goodies, that people just don't know about.
I have also found it increasingly harder to gain access to these areas.
I think if you loose these special plants you will also loose the
unique wildlife. We live in a very special flora & fauna area
and I have found most people just don't know what is on their own
back yard. I would be willing to help where I can.

Good work by the Helidon
Hills/Murphys Creek Landcare group. Some unlicenced operators have
been working for more than 2 years.

Thank you for the site.
Please encourage people to put political pressure onto the gov. The
laws are all there but no political will to enforce the laws.
